Vijayawada: Plea to remove difficult questions from NPR

Vijayawada: Leaders of the Alliance for Protection Secularism and Democracy met Deputy Chief Minister Amzath Basha Shaik Bepari at the Secretariat here on Thursday and requested the minister to remove objectionable questions from the National Population of Register, the survey of which will commence in the state soon.

Shaikh Muneer Ahmed, Shafi Ahmed and others explained to the Minister that citizens particularly Muslims, SCs, STs and other backward classes may face many problems, if the Union government asks questions that are difficult to answer and obtain information related the parents like date of birth and place of birth.

Muneer Ahmed said many illiterate people can't get the birth certificates of their parents, who were born several decades ago. He requested the Minister to ensure that the common people do not suffer due to the questions mentioned in the questionnaire. Replying to it, the Minister said the State government so far has not received the format and papers related to the NPR. He said the State government will not make common people suffer due to the NPR.
