Railways to extend special parcel train services for six more months

Vijayawada: In view of good response for special parcel trains from farmers and other stakeholders, the Indian Railways has decided to continue their operation till December 31, 2020.

Fish, prawn, paddy and other products are transported from Vijayawada railway division to various places particularly to Howrah and parts of Odisha.

The railways started special parcel trains during the lockdown on account of Covid-19 pandemic to ensure that supply chains of essential commodities are not disrupted throughout the country.

Due to increasing patronage and demand for these trains, it has been decided to extend the services in selected routes for six more months till December 2020.

Also, Indian Railways is offering cost effective and competitive prices for longer distances in comparison to road transport.

Further, transportation by Railways is also one of the safest modes of transport. The special services are operated to Nizamuddin, Delhi, Howrah, Secunderabad and other destinations passing via Vijayawada Railway division. Farmers and others can load and unload the produce in Vijayawada, Rajamahendravaram and other stations under Vijayawada Division.
