South Central Railway Vijayawada division distributes food to migrant workers

Vijayawada: South Central Railway Vijayawada Division distributed free food to over 3.5 lakh migrant workers on board of 225 Shramik special trains passing through the Vijayawada division from May 2 to 25. The Division partnered with IRCTC to serve the needy from its base kitchens in the divisions and it had served food at the railway junctions like Nellore, Gudur, Ongole, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry and Samalkot.

Several local NGOs like Satya Sai Seva Samithi, Amaravati Runners, Amrutha Hastham, Doctors' Association, Zariya Foundation, Jain Association had voluntarily have come forward to serve the migrant workers with free food and water at Vijayawada every day. At Rajahmundry, Keasavabhatla Charitable Trust & ISKCON and other NGOs are doing indispensable services by working in unison with Railway Officials for distributing food to migrants onboard.

Proper care is being taken to ensure that the food served at all locations is prepared in the most hygienic conditions. Efforts are also undertaken to identify requirements and staple food habits of various needy sections of the people, so as to prepare the food to suit their habits and taste.

P. Srinivas, Divisional Railway Manager, Vijayawada Division has praised the services of the staff and thanked the NGOs for rendering great service in difficult times of Covid-19 lock down.

While the Railway Protection Force, Operating and commercial branches are extending their services to the migrant workers travelling in Sramik trains.
