Vijayawada: Take up anti-larvae operations, civic chief directs officials
Vijayawada: Municipal Commissioner Venkatesh Prasanna on Tuesday directed the municipal officials to take precautionary measures and take up anti-larvae operations to check the mosquito menace in the rainy season in the city. In view of the onset of monsoon season, Venkatesh conducted a review meeting with the officials at the council meeting hall on Tuesday and discussed the measures to be taken to check the mosquito menace and spread of seasonal diseases like malaria, typhoid, dengue etc. Speaking on the occasion, he asked the officials to identify the vacant sites and sprinkle the chemicals and release oil balls, Gambusia fish in the stagnated water.
He asked the officials to distribute pamphlets to create awareness on the precautions to be taken by the people to check fevers. He asked the officials to make ground visits to the high risk areas and conduct survey on the malaria cases reported in the city.
He suggested them to collect blood samples to conduct the tests. He said there should be no stagnation of water in the residential areas and felt it is the root cause of all problems in the rainy season.
Chief medical officer Dr Shalini Devi, Biologist Dr Iqbal Hussain, District Malaria Officer David Raju and other officials were present at the meeting.
