Vijayawada to become plastic-free city: Imtiaz

Vijayawada: Krishna District Collector M D Imtiaz has said that the government would transform Vijayawada city into plastic-free city.

Addressing at the 'Meet-the-Press' programme held at Press Club here on Friday, Imtiaz said that the government already banned plastics carry bags usage in Rythu Bazaars in the district.

He recalled that the Krishnamma Suddi programme taken up by the district administration, has received a tremendous response. Stating that the anti-plastic drive will continue in the city, the Collector said that plastic usage has become part of daily life in the city and warned that the excessive usage of plastic causes cancer.

He said that the government's Spandana, a grievances redressal programme, got a good response from the public.

Already, the district administration had received 7,000 applications from people on various issues, he added. He stated the officials were taking all steps to provide house site pattas to poor by Ugadi.
