Vijayawada: Women in large numbers took out a massive rally under the banner Amaravati Parirakshana Samithi with the theme 'Save Amaravati' from Gunadala Centre in the city on Saturday.

The women raised slogans against the three capitals and demanded continuation of the capital city at Amaravati in the larger interest of the State. They stated that the farmers sacrificed their land for the construction of the capital city but not for giving away as house sites.

Leaders representing various parties including Nannapaneni Rajakumari, former chairperson of State Women's Commission, former ZP chairperson Gadde Anuradha of TDP, N Malathi of Lok Satta, K Nagalakshmi and R Soujanya of the BJP, B Padma and S Jyothsna of the Jana Sena, Sunkara Padmasri of the Congress and Akkineni and P Durga Bhavani of the CPI took part in the rally which attracted the citizens from throughout the city.

The rally which started at Gunadala passed through Christurajapuram and culminated in a meeting at AMMA Kalyanamandapam, where the leaders addressed the participants in the rally.
