Kadapa: Several people at various places across the district have been suffering from different types of viral fevers and water borne diseases. Diseases like diarrhoea, gastroenteritis, Chikungunya , dengue, malaria and typhoid are rampant in majority of mandals in the district.

Platelets have fallen drastically to 30 students of IIIT at Idupulapaya besides 400 students from the institute are undergoing treatment at the hospital in the campus which indicates intensity of the situation.

According to the sources, a large number of people suffering from viral fevers and water borne diseases are being treated at government and private hospitals including Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).

Among them, 40 per cent are children between 4 to 8 years, and 20 per cent are elders between 50 to 65 years of age group. Many of them suffer from throat infections and breathing related problems and they are treated as outpatients.

About a week ago, a 15years old boy of Ramireddypalle village of Vempalli mandal reportedly died due to dengue fever. It is learnt that several people from the village got tests in Chennai, Bengaluru and Kurnool.

In addition, seasonal fevers are also in rise in many mandals due to climatic changes coupled with poor sanitary conditions and about 5,000 patients were treated in last two weeks in the RIMS.

Non-availability of Dengue testing kits in adequate numbers in the government hospitals is one of the reasons for patients approaching to corporate hospitals. However officials maintain that there was no single death due to dengue reported so far.
