Visakhapatnam: K Manasa from Kendriya Vidyalaya bags National Scholarship in Painting

Visakhapatnam: Her economic background did not dissuade her from achieving what she aspired for. Driven by passion, K Manasa, a Class IX student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, NAD (Naval Armament Depot), enjoys every moment she wields her brush and canvas while bringing images to life on it.

Speaking to The Hans India, Manasa said that it came as a pleasant surprise to her when she got selected for the national scholarship in painting.

Instituted by the Centre for Cultural Resource and Training (CCRT), Manasa says that she crossed the three levels – school, regional and national to bag the prestigious scholarship, amounting Rs 12,600 per annum from 2020 till her final year of graduation to pursue her favourite hobby -- painting.

Manasa, a resident of Birla junction, says that she feels blessed to have supportive parents as they always nudged her to realise her dreams. "My father K Ramana works as a watchman and does laundry work too. My mom Krishnaveni extends support to family by working as a domestic help in a few apartments. Though they struggle to make ends meet, they never discouraged me from taking part in any competition. They give me strength in all my endeavours," explains the Class IX student, who aspires to become a fashion designer. She adds that parents' support plays an imperative part for any child to fulfil their ambition.

Adept at pencil sketches and paintings through poster colours, Manasa says that she draws inspiration from her friend M Joshnavi Devi and art master B Sasi Bhushana Rao. Manasa says that her school Principal S Adisesha Sarma guides the aspirants to bring out their creativity.

The artist had so far done 700 pencil sketches and 100 poster cards, among a host of others. She bagged 'Viswakala Darshini' and 'Sridarshini Kalai Kodam' awards for her outstanding contribution to the field of art. Along with national, state and district level awards, she had also won over a dozen gold medals in the field of art.
