Visakhapatnam: CPI demands criminal case against LG Polymers
Visakhapatnam: CPI State assistant secretary J V Satyanarayana Murthy has demanded on Monday that LG Polymers management be booked under 302 IPC and its chairman and board members arrested and prosecuted at the earliest.
At a media conference here at the party office, he urged all the industrial units dealing toxic substances and those which are located in residential localities should be closed immediately.
The LG Polymers should take the responsibility of eliminating all the toxic vapours, chemical substances and any material that harms the biodiversity with immediate effect, he mentioned.
Satyanarayana alleged that LG Polymers used to hoodwink the Central and State establishments such as Central Pollution Control Board, Forest Ministry and APPCB by keeping everyone in the dark. Since its inception from 1961, the factory had been using a dilapidated tank to store its toxic chemicals for which the Chief Inspector of factories and the PCB Chief Engineers should be held responsible, he pointed out.
"People living in 10 km radius of the plant should be given special identity cards and should in future be treated for any kind of health- related problems. They should be provided with free treatment and medical care by the government in future for the residents living within 10 km radius of the plant," Satyanarayana stated.
