Visakhapatnam: GITAM bags 366th rank in global rankings
Visakhapatnam: GITAM Deemed to be University has ranked 366th globally and 7th in India this year in the University of Indonesia (UI) Green Metric World University Rankings.
The UI Green Metric World University Rankings is an initiative of the University of Indonesia which was initiated in 2010. The criteria of the rankings include baseline information such as the area of the university, spatially and in terms of population, campus location and the amount of green space, efforts taken on energy use, transport, water use and recycling and waste treatment.
It is a uniform system that gives credit to universities around the world in their bids to reduce their carbon footprint and help combat climate change.
Worldwide 780 universities participated in the UI Green Metric World Rankings. Participating universities have to provide numeric data on a number of criteria that can give a picture of their commitment to the greening of their campus and putting in place environmentally friendly policies that support sustainability.
GITAM actively participated in the ranking exercise. For its clean and green campus sustainability effort, GITAM bagged 366th rank of the 780 participating institutions worldwide and 7 out of 26 participating institutions in the country. Also, GITAM achieved the highest score in education and research among institutions in India.
