Visakhapatnam: GITAM founder M V V S Murthi's services to education sector recalled on his 82nd Birth Anniversary
Visakhapatnam: Rich tributes paid to GITAM founder-president M V V S Murthi marking his 82nd birth anniversary here on Friday. The institution's Vice-Chancellor K Sivaramakrishna, family members of the founder-president, officers and staff joined in paying floral tributes to the statue of Murthi on the campus.
Speaking on the occasion, the V-C said Murthi made remarkable contribution to the field of higher education. His efforts to strengthen the education system and inculcate a spirit of patriotism among students will always be remembered, he added.
Vice-president of the institution M Gangadhra Rao, Pro V-C C V Rao, secretary B V Mohana Rao, Murthi's grandson and GITAM Society joint secretary M Bharadwaj, Principals S Ganapathi, Gowtham Rao, K Mohan, Sarath Chandra Babu, among others participated in the programme.
Late M V V S Murthi is a multifaceted personality imbibing the qualities of an industrialist, educationist, politician and philanthropist. To realise his dream of providing quality in technical and higher education, he started Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management in 1980.
To serve the poor with high quality medical treatment Dr Murthi established GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (GIMSR) Hospital with attached Medical College.
Now, the same facility is extending services to treat Covid-19 patients with high recovery rate.
