Visakhapatnam: Hand-woven saris draw attention

Visakhapatnam: Nadeem, a weaver from Bhagalpur, elaborates how fabrics like eri and mutka silk, among other varieties lend elegance as well as comfort to consumers, especially for those who have to battle against humid weather conditions.

From a limited circle of shoppers, Nadeem says, Visakhapatnam has a great potential for such easy-to-carry fabrics.

At the 'Silk India Expo - 2019' which was inaugurated on Wednesday, weavers share the latest trends and how hand-woven fabrics have become the most sought-after among the locals.

Badal Haldear, another weaver from Nadia district, West Bengal says that khadi is another fabric that is gradually catching up among women of all age groups.

"Youngsters prefer khadi nowadays as they can carry it off well with elan," he adds.

There are more than 50 stalls at the venue wherein weavers and designers from various states have put up saris, dress material, Banaras saris and material, Chanderi saris, linen saris, among a host of other products.

Organised by Hastashilpi – Artisans, Weavers Welfare Association, Mysore, the exhibition will be open at hotel Green Park till August 26 from 11 am to 9 pm.
