JSP, BJP leaders have demanded cancellation of local body elections

Visakhapatnam: The activists from Jana Sena Party (JSP) and BJP have demanded cancellation of local body elections notification and issue a fresh notification following violations reported from across the state. Staging a silent protest at the Gandhi statue opposite GVMC here on Monday, the party leaders mentioned the State government was indulging in 'faction politics'. Speaking after conclusion of the protest, BJP MLC P V N Madhav criticised the State government for its repeated attacks on aspirants when they came to file their nomination papers.

The MLC alleged that the YSRCP activists were involved in attack of the candidates and tearing of nomination papers into pieces.

He said that people were observing the ruling party's unruly behavior and demanded the State Election Commission to save the democracy. North Andhra JSP in-charge S Vijay Kumar said he welcomed the postponement of local body polls and urged the Chief Election Commissioner to release a fresh notification for civic elections.

He also demanded the SEC to conduct elections with central forces. BJP former MP K Haribabu, state secretary Kasiraju, district president Ravindra Reddy, JSP leaders P Usha Rani and Raghu Babu among others participated in the protest.
