Visakhapatnam: Liquor ban improved economic status of women: Vasireddy Padma
Visakhapatnam: The International Women's Day is observed as a festival in the women-friendly state every day in a year, said AP Mahila Commission Chairperson Vasireddy Padma.
Speaking at a conference, she said the proposed ban on liquor will benefit a lot in the long run. "It will help curtail attacks on women, fill joy in the family and improve the economic status of the families," Padma said. "This is the first state in the country to offer comprehensive protection to women through Disha Act and also ensuring complete prohibition in phases which will benefit the women community at large," she stated.
The chairperson said Disha Act filled in self-confidence among women. "This apart, women are getting 50 per cent reservation in all the sectors. The YSRC government has ensured that women get to benefit in all domains and hence it is being observed as a daily festival in the state," she informed. Padma announced that 18 Disha police stations will start functioning from International Women's day in the state.
Later, she took part in the 'Power Walk' organised by Andhra University on the Beach Road.
