Visakhapatnam: Manyam Veerudu's birth anniversary celebrated with grandeur
Visakhapatnam: Pandrangi, the birthplace of Alluri Sitarama Raju, will be developed at a cost of Rs 2 crore, said Tourism Minister Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao here on Saturday.
Paying floral tributes to the statue of the revolutionary freedom fighter, marking his birth anniversary at Pandringi village in Padmanabham mandal and later at Visakhapatnam Beach Road, the Minister said Krishnadevipeta, the area where Alluri's cemetery is located, will also be developed at a cost of Rs 50 lakh and the projects will be completed by the next anniversary.
Srinivasa Rao said one of the new districts will be named after Alluri and the upcoming junior college at Padmanabham too will be named after the revolutionary leader after discussing with the Chief Minister.
Chairman of Official Language Commission Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad said the biography of Alluri should be included in the curriculum.
Similarly, Araku MP G Madhavi paid respects to the statue of Alluri on the Beach Road. She described Alluri as the saviour of tribals. At Anakapalle, Alluri's birth anniversary was celebrated in the MLA camp office. Meanwhile, CPI district leader Y N Bhadram demanded that Visakhapatnam district should be named after Alluri.
District Collector V Vinay Chand garlanded the portrait of Alluri at the Collectorate. He was accompanied by Joint Collectors M Venugopal Reddy, P Arun Babu and ITDA Project Officer M Venkateswar.
At Centre for Alluri Sitarama Raju History and Tribal Studies, centre director V Vijayalakshmi, Andhra University Registrar V Krishna Mohan and Principal of Dr B R Ambedkar College of Law, AU, S Sumitra, paid tributes to 'Manyam Veerudu.'
Meanwhile, Narsipatnam MLA Petla Uma Sanakar Ganesh offered tributes to the statue of revolutionary leader at Golugonda mandal. He assured that K D Peta will be developed as Alluri tourist park in the coming days.
Rotary Club Visakha Port City organised a blood donation camp at Alluri Sitarama Raju statue at Beach Road with the support of Sewabharathi Chairman Murali Mahesh Raju and B Sivaji. BJP MLC P V N Madhav attended as chief guest and inaugurated the blood donation camp.
