Visakhapatnam: Maoists activity has come down significantly in AOB region says SP B Krishna Rao

Visakhapatnam: The impact of Maoists is confined to two to three villages dotting Andhra-Odisha border (AOB) as the recruitment has come down to a large extent in recent times, Superintendent of Police (Visakhapatnam Rural) B Krishna Rao said.

Sharing the annual crime report at the SP office here on Monday, Krishna Rao said there's 25 per cent increase in the number of NDPS cases registered and almost double the quantity of ganja was seized this year.

In 2020, 153 cases of theft were registered in Visakhapatnam rural, attempt to murder were 61, cases of kidnap 18, rape cases 64, cheating cases 154, murder cases 29, Covid violation cases 8,235, among 12,874 offences. The SP said steps will be intensified to bring down crime rate further in 2021. About 14 militia members were surrendered this year, while 15 got arrested, the SP announced.

Close to 153 property offences were detected. "Of them, 159 involved in the crime were taken into custody," the SP said.

While rendering Covid-19 duties, the SP said, 499 police personnel were affected in the district, including home guards and SPOs.

Of them, four succumbed to the infection, Krishna Rao informed. Lauding the remarkable teamwork of the cops who cracked various cases efficiently, the SP presented cash rewards to them. ASP Rahul Dev Singh of Special Enforcement Bureau, OSD of Visakhapatnam district S Satish Kumar and ASP, Narsipatnam Tuhin Sinha, among others were present.
