Visakhapatnam: Migrant workers stage protest

Visakhapatnam: Demanding transport facility, migrant workers involved in HPCL expansion works, staged a protest here on Friday. An army of migrant workers from Odisha, Bihar and Jharkhand were engaged in HPCL expansion works on contract basis.

Since they became jobless after the lockdown came into force, they have been facilitated shelter at Gangavaram Port road.

However, the migrant workers staged a protest, demanding arrangements to help them reach their hometowns. Despite the Shramik Special trains being operated, they wondered how come they were not allowed to board the trains.

Revenue and police department officials assured the migrant workers that their issue has been brought to the notice of the district administration and it will be sorted out at the earliest.

Initially, they staged a protest demanding their respective contractors to pay salaries and make necessary arrangements to help them reach their native places.
