Visakhapatnam: New Chief Commissioner of Customs takes charge
Visakhapatnam: Naresh Penumaka takes over as Chief Commissioner of Customs and Central Tax, Visakhapatnam Zone. Prior to this, he was Chief Commissioner of Customs and Central Tax, Bhubaneswar and was holding additional charge of Visakhapatnam.
He has now been transferred and posted on full time basis to Visakhapatnam Zone, covering AP.
Naresh Penumaka belongs to 1987 batch of IRS (Customs & GST). He studied M Com, LLB and Certificate in 'English Law' from London School of Economics and Political Science, U.K. He worked in various capacities in Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Aurangabad, Cochin, Chandigarh and Bhubaneswar in Customs, Central Excise, Service Tax, Anti-smuggling and GST.
Also, he worked as Additional Secretary (Finance Department) and as Secretary (Handloom, Textile and Sugar) in Government of Andhra Pradesh during 2007-09 and 2015-16 respectively.
During his career he has unearthed tax evasion to the tune of Rs 429 crore. He submitted a research paper for mobilising additional indirect tax resources to the tune of Rs 5.21 lakh crore per annum to 14th Finance Commission in 2014. He published a book 'Future World' and toured Hong Kong, Paris, Atlanta and the USA to attend textile industry conferences and exhibitions.
In 2019, Naresh had successfully hosted the first conference on GST for Principal Director Generals/Principal Chief Commissioners at Bhubaneswar.
