Visakhapatnam: Six-member panel submits report to District Collector to investigate the recent crane crash at the Hindustan Shipyard Limited

Visakhapatnam: A six-member committee which was set up to investigate the recent crane crash at the Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) here, submitted its report to District Collector Vinay Chand on Wednesday.

According to sources, the committee report stated that the crane, which came crashing down in HSL, was supplied by Anupama Crane Engineering Company to the shipyard. The committee reported that the crane had not been built to meet the specified capacity. The crane crash took place near the premises of HSL on August 1 afternoon at the time of conducting a massive crane trial.

Ten workers who were monitoring the crane's loading work, were killed on the spot in this crane crash and several others were injured. According to sources, there were at least 16 persons working at the accident site in the shipyard when the giant crane collapsed.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had directed the Visakhapatnam District Collector and Police Commissioner to take swift action in the case following which the six-member committee was constituted to go into the accident.
