Visakhapatnam: Stale food found during raids in hotels
Visakhapatnam: Food Safety Department officials conducted raids at restaurants and hotels in the city on Monday and issued notices to the managements that failed to follow quality standards.
Two noted restaurants in the city have been found storing stale and leftover food in refrigerators only to be served to the customers again. Samples were collected and notices were served to the owners of the restaurants.
The officials collected samples of food items which were suspected to be containing non-permitted colours and sent to lab for testing. The findings have brought the quality of food served in city hotels to the fore.
After a long gap followed by lockdown restrictions, restaurants were opened from June 8. But the food courts are flouting safety norms and Covid-19 protocol, putting the public health at stake.
