Visakhapatnam: Anaesthetist Sudhakar, who was recently suspended from Narsipatnam hospital for complaining of protective gear shortage, created a scene at Akkayyapalem by lying down on the road semi-naked on Saturday.

Police took him into custody for blocking the traffic and allegedly blabbering in an incomprehensible manner. Sources say, the doctor was driving a car and reportedly hit two persons travelling on a two-wheeler.

When the latter stopped the car and complained to the police, the doctor argued with the police saying that he's Narsipatnam doctor who got suspended and also infected with coronavirus. "If you come closer to me, I will infect you with coronavirus," he shouted on the road.

He reportedly abused the passers-by and also Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. Later, the anaesthetist alleged that the police constables, who took him into the custody, were trying to kill him.Police Commissioner R K Meena spoke to media and disapproved the act of the constable tying the doctor's hands and thrashing him. However, the police commissioner said a case was registered against the doctor under section 353 and he was sent to King George Hospital for tests as he was said to be in an inebriated condition.

A traffic constable was suspended with regard to the case, the CP said. He also ordered a departmental inquiry into the incident. It is learnt that the Narsipatnam doctor was not psychologically in good condition for the past few days. IMA executive members said that once the treatment is over, they would counsel the doctor as he had gone into a state of deep depression. Leaders of various political parties condemned the way the police had treated the doctor.
