Visakhapatnam: South MLA and TDP urban president Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar has demanded the government to pass a resolution in the Assembly against the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Staging a two-day relay hunger strike here on Monday against the implementation of NPR, NRC and CAA at GVMC Gandhi statue here on Monday, Ganesh Kumar expressed support to the Muslim community.

Holding placards that read 'Stop dividing India, Reject CAA and Boycott NRC' and 'Save India No NRC/CAA', the MLA and the Muslim brethren staged the protest. Ganesh Kumar said the implementation of CAA would give way to communal disharmony and hence it should be withdrawn immediately.

He said there were communal clashes in many parts of the country due to CAA and NRC claiming the lives and hence a resolution should be brought, appealing to the Centre to withdraw it.

The TDP MLA stated that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, who came to power with the votes of the Muslims across the state, should oppose the CAA. He criticised the Chief Minister for not speaking on the issue due of fear that cases against him would be opened by the Centre.

A large number of Muslims participated in hunger strike.
