Visakhapatnam: Twin ladle heating furnace launched at RINL

Visakhapatnam: RINL CMD P K Rath inaugurated 'Twin Ladle Heating Furnace' (TLHF) project at Steel Melt Shop-2 at the steel plant on Wednesday.

Built at a cost of Rs 109 crore, the furnace is housed at the existing Steel Melt Shop-2 area of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.

Lauding the collective effort of the Projects Wing team, SMS-2, Rath said the commissioning of Twin LHF would enhance the production capabilities of RINL.

RINL Director (Personnel) K C Das, Director (Commercial) D K Mohanty, Director (Projects) K K Ghosh, Director (Operations) A K Saxena and representatives of unions were present on the occasion.

The new facility aims to cater to the enhanced liquid steel production after expansion to 7.3 Mtpa from 6.3 Mtpa phase. TLHF is envisaged to strengthen the secondary metallurgy section of Steel Melt Shop-2, i.e., to increase the temperature of the molten steel and adjustment of the chemical composition to optimise the process route.
