Visakhapatnam: Village volunteers will hand over the pensions at the doorstep of beneficiaries from this month, said Tourism Minister Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao.

Laying foundation stone for a slew of development works in Bheemunipatnam constituency and launching the pensions programme at Simhachalam and Anandapuram here on Saturday, Srinivasa Rao said serpentine queues were witnessed earlier to avail pensions. "But the scenario is different now. Volunteers will render the service to pensioners within the comfort zone of their homes," he stated.

He appealed to volunteers to serve the people and set an example. Srinivasa Rao mentioned that the scheme 'Amma Vodi' implemented by the government was a boon for scores of parents and urged everyone to utilise the scheme and educate their children.

Further, he stated that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has dreamed that Navaratnalu schemes should reach out to every poor family. "All the initiatives taken by the State government is a step towards inching closer to the CM's aspirations," the Minister stated.

During his visit, he laid foundation stone for several development works worth of Rs.3 crore. This apart, free study material was distributed to Class 10 students at Sirlapalem Village High School.
