Visakhapatnam: Waltair Railway division steps up its fight against pandemic
Visakhapatnam: Divisional Railway Manager, Waltair Division, Chetan Kumar Shrivastava said that enough care has been taken by the railways to check the passengers boarding special trains.
Speaking at a virtual press conference here on Wednesday, the DRM said the railway personnel working in the frontline were given safety gadgets to combat the spread of coronavirus infection.
The DRM mentioned that Waltair Division has incurred a loss of Rs 1,000 crore in both freight and passenger sectors due to coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdown. Answering a question, Chetan Kumar Shrivastava said that all the ongoing works are in progress. He said that regular train movement can be resumed only after the complete control of the pandemic.
The loss incurred in goods traffic is due to industrial slowdown and scarcity of workforce due to the pandemic, he added.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager G Sunil Kumar gave a PowerPoint presentation on various safety works, developmental activities, freight transport, incentives and other initiatives taken by the division during the lockdown period.
