Visakhapatnam: Work apace to establish important police wings in city
Visakhapatnam: Even as efforts are on to resume stalled projects in Amaravati, work to set up offices and police wings in Visakhapatnam is gaining pace, albeit stealthily.
If the notice served to vacate the police quarters at Karasa is any indication, plans are afoot to shift one of the police wings to the premises. According to sources, police personnel have been served a two-month notice to vacate the quarters. While some of the police personnel have already left the quarters, a few are yet to shift from the place.
There are about 130 families residing in the police quarters housed at Karasa. "Already, they have been asked to shift from the quarters. A majority of the constables residing here were happy to leave the place as the building is pretty old," an official tells The Hans India on condition of anonymity.
Initially, the three-decade old Karasa Police quarters gained prominence as it was a shelter for the police personnel. Subsequently, a park was also developed on the premises. However, over the years, some of the blocks at the quarters have become dilapidated.
While a section of the officials say that the decks are cleared to set up one of the main wings of the police department at the police quarters, speculations are rife that there is a possibility of housing DGP's office on the premises.
In addition, steps are taken to set up Special Investigation Team (SIT) headquarters in Visakhapatnam. It is said that the campus is expected to focus primarily on the misuse of funds, monitoring the status of the government projects and implementation of schemes, among others.
Sources say that Visakhapatnam will be the major centre to carry out investigations pertaining to 13 districts of the State.
