Visakhapatnam's Rushikonda beach selected for BEAMS program, to get better amenities
According to Minister of Environment Prakash Javadekar, Rishikonda Beach has found the place in the 'Beach Environment & Aesthetics Management Services' project launched by the central government to develop the country's 13 beaches into international beaches.
The BEAMS program aims to create beaches that attract tourists besides protecting the ancient coastal environment. Thirteen beaches in coastal states of the country have been identified for the event; one of them is the Rishikonda Beach from Visakhapatnam of Andhra Pradesh.
As part of the program, facilities such an as bio-toilets, modern bathrooms, refined drinking water, pathways, seating facilities, umbrellas, wooden chairs, children's playgrounds, fitness equipment, First Aid Station, Clock Room, Parking spaces would be set up at all beaches to enhance the tourists.
Also, a greywater treatment plant will be set up to reuse the water used for gardening and toileting. On the other hand, waste management plant and solar power plant will also be set up for the treatment of bio-waste.
