Vizag-based foundation to distribute free lunch boxes to underprivileged children
Visakhapatnam: With a noble purpose to spread happiness among the underprivileged on the occasion of Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan, Ma Prema, a city-based foundation decided to distribute 1,000 lunch boxes to underprivileged children and senior citizens.
The idea of Ma Prema Foundation was started by Mukund Thota eight years ago. The agenda of the foundation is to help the less fortunate ones to eradicate poverty. They have 300 odd volunteers who extend support to the foundation and visit slum areas and mitigate their problems.
Gayatri Bala, a member from the Foundation, says, "We are helping 1,000 plus underprivileged kids, mostly orphans and sadly most of these kids do not have a proper 'dabba' to carry them to their schools. So, we decided to provide them good quality box made of steel."
"We do service everyday by serving good food to aged people and kids as we have donors who support our endeavour," says Gayatri. The lunch boxes will be distributed mostly to the kids from Jalaripeta and other slums in city limits.
When asked about the donors and the procedure about how the distribution drive functions, she adds, "We have a huge network of donors to help us render our services." Apart from daily services, the volunteers also look after every day grievances faced by slum dwellers. The only purpose we opted Independence Day is to help them have food in a clean and three-layered dabba as they normally have the tendency to skip breakfast, she adds.
