Kuruapam (Vizianagaram): Deputy Chief Minister P Pushpasreevani made surprise visit to various schools in Parvathipuram agency and reprimanded the school managements for providing substandard food to schoolchildren during lunch.

While expressing concern over providing substandard midday meal to children, the Minister questioned the officials why they failed to follow the instructions of the government. She shared lunch with the children.

On Saturday, she visited the ZP high school and Model school, Kasturba Model residential school in Kurupam and found that they were cooking 25 kg of rice instead of 35 kg as per requirement. She asked the cooks why the firewood was being used when the government provided LPG for cooking. Why are you cooking lesser quantity whereas the government is providing every commodity and funds to implement the scheme Jagananna Gorumudda in effective way, she asked.

Later she visited Model school and had the lunch along with the students sitting on the floor. The students complained that the hostel warden and principal were humiliating them and looting the funds meant for their welfare. The sambar is totally tasteless, and the rice remained nearly raw.

Later Sreevani stated that the government was spending huge funds for the welfare of students, but the hostel managements are misusing funds.

This is a serious offence and the government would not tolerate anybody if its repeated, she said.
