VMC plans to build G+3 houses in Dal Mill area

Vijayawada: Endowments Minister Vellampalli Srinivas on Thursday urged the residents of Dal Mill area to come forward to construct houses under PM Awas Yojana in their colony. Srinivas along with Municipal Commissioner Prasanna Venkatesh and other officials visited the Dal Mill area on Thursday and interacted with the residents for the construction of G+3 houses under the PM Awas Yojana Scheme.

He said the residents of area were suffering due to lack of basic amenities for a long time and asked the latter to co-operate with the VMC for the construction of houses. Municipal Commissioner Venkatesh said the VMC was proposing to construct nine blocks with each block consists of 48 houses.

Former corporator of the 48 division B Punyaseela explained the need for construction of houses under the PM Awas Yojana. She said 320 families were living in the area and 100 families were the tenants. She suggested the tenants also need to have their own house. Replying to it, the Commissioner said the VMC would allocate JNNURM Houses being constructed at Ajit Singh Nagar area and the beneficiary has to pay Rs 66,000.

Referring to the proposed new houses in Dal Mill area under the PM Awas yojana, the Commissioner said the cost of each housing unit was Rs 6.55 lakh and the civic body will help them to get Rs 3 lakh subsidy under the PMAY Scheme. He further said the remaining amount will be sanctioned as bank loan.

The residents said they would discuss and inform to the officials. Proposal for construction of houses under PM Awas Yojana has been pending for the last 10 years. Former Union Minister K Chiranjeevi laid foundation stone for the construction of houses. But the proposal is still pending due to administrative reasons and non-co-operation of residents.
