VMC staff demand Gunadala Colony development
Vijayawada: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Employees Colony Development Society members on Sunday demanded the VMC to develop the infrastructure facilities like roads, side drains and street lighting in the colony. The Society meeting was held at the Gunadala Employees' Colony located in Gunadala on Sunday.
The VMC has purchased about 53 acres of land nearly 20 years ago and sold to the VMC employees on no profit and no loss basis. The land was divided into over 700 plots and allotted to the employees after collecting money prescribed by the civic body.
Later, the VMC collected nearly Rs.8 crore from the employees for the development of infrastructure facilities. Six years passed since the civic body collected money from the staff, but there is no development in the colony. Even roads were not laid in these years and there were no demarcation stones of the plots.
Some retired employees also died in the last 20 years but there is no progress on the development of colony. The sites are located between the Inner Ring Road and Gunadala Railway station. Society president Ch V Subramanyam demanded that the VMC should develop the infrastructure facilities in the colony.
He lamented that there were no roads, side drains and other developmental works in the colony. Other members have also decided to meet the Central MLA Malladi Vishnu and Endowment's Minister Velampalli Srinivas requesting the latter to take measures for the development of Employees' Colony.
