Volunteers told to be selfless: Mekathoti Sucharita
Guntur: Home minister Mekathoti Sucharita said village volunteer system was the first step by the state government in establishing Grama Swarajyam (villages self-rule). She addressed a meeting held in the Montessori School in Guntur rural mandal in connection with training programme conducted for village volunteers on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Sucharita said that the aim of Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy in bringing in village volunteer system was to extend benefits of welfare schemes to all the eligible people.
"They village volunteers should be self-less in rendering services to the people. They should go to houses allotted to them and identify problems and solve them with the cooperation of village secretariats within 72 hours. They are the bridge between the people and the government," she said.
The home minister said village secretariats, which would start functioning on October 2, were aimed at provide better services to the people. As many as 172 village volunteers have been appointed in the Guntur rural mandal District collector I Samuel Anand Kumar said that the village volunteers should solve problems of the people and added they should have commitment to render selfless service to the people.
