VR Siddhartha College holds AIDS rally in Vijayawada
Vijayawada: The NSS Unit of VR Siddhartha Engineering College has organised a rally to mark World AIDS Day from the college campus to Tadigadapa to create awareness in among the people on AIDS.
Dr AV Ratna Prasad, college principal flagged off the rally and said that despite the government's continuous effort to spread awareness about AIDS and HIV, more youths in India are contracting the disease as compared to people from other age groups.
He said that World AIDS Day is symbolically a call to enhance social protection mechanism for people with HIV and alert governments in framing unbiased policies for vulnerable population so that they enjoy equal status in the society.
UN-AIDS and numerous social welfare organization are constantly striving and taking initiatives on AIDS awareness and to reach both urban and rural areas. Like every year, the theme of this year's World AIDS Day is 'Communities make the difference'.
According to reports, out of all the States in India, Andhra Pradesh is in the second position in which there are victims of AIDS, in AP this number is more in East Godavari, Guntur and Krishna districts.
Heads of various departments, staff, members, NSS Volunteers and students participated. Dr K Narendra, NSS programme officer are monitoring the programme.
