Visakhapatnam: The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) employees brought national-level recognition to the organisation by bagging the prestigious Viswakarma Rashtriya Puraskar for their innovative work.

S Eswara Rao, D Trinadha Rao, B Dharma Rao, A Satti Babu, B Appala Raju and D Devadanam of Steel Structural Shop of Engineering Shops and Foundry undertook a critical job of repairing and renovating a torpedo-ladle in a span of 56 days, a cost saving exercise for the company.

The awards were presented to them by Union Minister for Labour and Employment Santosh Kumar Gangwar at a ceremony held in New Delhi. The torpedo-ladle cars were designed for transporting 300 tonnes of hot metal of 1,500 degree Celsius from blast furnace to LD converters of SMS.

The overall length of the vessel is 19.60 mts. During its usage, the vessel got deformed and damage. However, a dedicated and committed team of Steel Structural Shop of RINL made it possible by renovating it, making use of in-house resources and inherent skills in a short span stretching 56 days.

RINL CMD P K Rath lauded the efforts made by the team and stated that the award reflected their commitment towards undertaking critical job and thinking innovatively.
