VSP to produce high quality 430 mm rounds SMS-2 in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam: RINL-Visakhapatnam Steel Plant achieved yet another significant milestone in steel making by casting high quality 430 mm rounds from caster 4 in Steel Melt Shop (SMS-2) on Saturday night.
The caster was built at a cost of Rs 200 crore in Steel Melt Shop-2, to produce higher dia 430 mm rounds for the first time in India. The new facility is also can cast all grades of steel through submerged casting route.
The new caster is the prime source of raw material for the upcoming forged wheel plant at Rae Bareli in UP, which is scheduled to be commissioned in September. The rounds can be used in seamless pipe, precious forging and wheel application.
The caster is always equipped with state-of-the-art autopower feeders, auto cutter, duburrer, automatic strand wise marking from SMS concast and also has facility for slow cooling in case of critical grades. Hence it was also designed to produce high quality blooms and rounds. The auxiliary and other balancing facilities in SMS-2 were also commissioned.
