Weather report: Cyclone Burevi weakens, Andhra and Tamil Nadu to receive heavy rains

The Meteorological department has said that the Burevi cyclone has weakened and turned into a depression. It also said that it will change direction and cross the coast at Thoothukudi with which strong winds with a speed of about 70 to 80 kmph will be reported while crossing the coast. Heavy rains forecasted in parts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

The worst affected districts are Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Virudhanagar and Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu government has announced holidays for educational institutions in the six districts due to the possibility of heavy rains with strong winds. However, the meteorological department warned that the impact of Burevi could affect several districts in Andhra Pradesh.

With this, rains expected in several parts of the southern coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. It is already raining heavily in many parts of AP. However, this effect is already visible in Tamil Nadu. Five people, including a lorry, were trapped in the floodwaters in Tiruvallur district. Authorities rescued those who were trapped in the floodwaters. NDRI teams are ready in those six districts.
