West Bengal coolies faint in Nellore; One dies
Nellore: Nellore also witnessed a similar situation of Eluru where people fainted un-expectedly due to unknown illness on Saturday and consequently one died and some others were hospitalized.
According to sources, some coolies from West Bengal were engaged for agriculture labour at Verubhotlapalli village in Kaluvoya Mandal in the district. Some 30 labourers from the state have been engaged for the paddy sowing and five people suddenly collapsed on Saturday morning while they were sowing the saplings. One died and the deceased was identified as G Munda, 40, from West Bengal.
Other coolies whose condition was critical were immediately shifted on a 108 ambulance vehicle to Podalakur hospital for treatment. People with severe ailment were referred to the Government General Hospital attached to the ACSR Medical College in Nellore. Local people are saying food poisoning might be the possible reason for sudden sickness.
Sarvepalli legislator K Govardhan Reddy rushed to the hospital in Podalakur and interacted with the medical staff members. He asked them to provide necessary treatment and shift the critical patients to Nellore, if necessary, for better treatment. The sudden collapse of the coolies and the death of one person created flutters among the local population.
