Speaking to reporters at R&B guesthouse here on Saturday, the women's commission chairman said the commission would protect the rights of women and would also conduct awareness programmes on their rights across the state. It will strive for the overall development of women with the cooperation of the government.

"The commission will respond immediately if any complaint is received from women and directions have also been issued to police department to file FIR immediately if a complaint is lodged," she said while adding that a 24-hour toll-free number has also be arranged in the office of commission.

On complaints against her predecessor Nannapuneni Rajakumari and caste abuse case lodged by Tadikonda MLA U Sridevi, Padma said proper action would be taken against them after investigation. She suggested that managements of educational institutions arrange closed circuit cameras in their institutions to avoid ragging of girl students.
