Will Dharmana break the jinx?
Srikakulam: Will former minister and YSRCP regional coordinator Dharmana Prasada Rao halt the TDP's continuous win in Srikakulam Assembly seat is a million-dollar question in these elections.
Srikakulam Assembly segment was formed in 1952 and elections held so far 12 times till 2014. Till 1983 candidates from Krishikar Lok Party (KLP), Janata party, Swatantra party, Congress and independent candidates won the seat.
From 1983 to 1999, TDP won for five times in this constituency. T Satyanarayana on one occasion and G Appala Suryanarayana was elected four times from here. The then Congress leader Dharmana Prasada Rao, who is now in YSRCP, break the history in 2004 by winning as Congress candidate here and he elected second time too in 2009 and in 2014 elections he was defeated by TDP candidate G Laxmidevi.
The segment covers Srikakulam city, Srikakulam rural and Gara mandals. The segment is dominated by Kalinga, Velama, fishermen and Vysya communities. Currently TDP sitting MLA G Laxmidevi and former minister Dharmana Prasada Rao are locked from here. Both the leaders are confident over their winning chances in the elections.
