Women's day special: 12 Disha Police stations to be inaugurated in AP today

The YSRCP leader and chairperson of the State Women's Commission Vasireddy Padma asserted that yet another twelve Disha police stations would be inaugurated on Sunday on the auspicious day of women's day. Speaking to media in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, she emphasised the importance of setting up women court in each district so as to complete the trials on time.

She said, with the various welfare schemes implemented by the YSRCP government headed by chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, every day is a women's day in the state. In the case of Harshita in Chittoor, the women commission has taken the initiative and sentenced the accused to be punished under the POCSO Act.

The Andhra Pradesh Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill adopted by the State Assembly has yielded better results so far in ensuring the safety and security for women. The law has been brought into force after a brutal gangrape and murder of Hyderabad veterinarian, which had emerged as a model for other States as well.

Each Disha police station will be set up at every police district headquarters in the state, which will be headed by a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) rank officer, two circle inspectors and three sub-inspector for investigation of cases pertaining to crimes on women. As many as 36 and 47 support staff would be available to assist the investigators.
