World Environment Day: Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to launch waste exchange platform today
Amaravati: Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy will launch the online waste exchange platform of Andhra Pradesh Environment Management Corporation (APEMC) on the occasion of 'World Environment Day 2020' on Friday.
Andhra Pradesh has many industries falling under red and orange zones, which generate significant quantities of liquid waste, hazardous and non-hazardous solid waste and air pollutants. They also generate other wastes like e-waste and many more, which need to be addressed.
The waste management sector/market is not adequately organised to cater to total quantity of waste being generated necessitating the streamlining, managing and scientifically disposing of waste generated in the state.
To resolve the existing insufficiency in managing the waste generated and making the waste management sector/market more organised, it has been proposed by the government to set up AP Environment Management Corporation as a government company to handle industrial waste from its generation until the end of its life cycle.
The APEMC will work in close coordination with AP Pollution Control Board with a strong regulatory framework to handle the waste from cradle to grave.
APPCB will make necessary provisions for industries to hand over the waste generated by their units, which cannot be treated within their premises to APEMC for management of waste in accordance with environmental rules and regulations.
The Chief Minister also launched the poster of online waste exchange platform.
