YS Jagan addresses BC Sankranti meeting in Vijayawada, says BCs are backbone of our culture

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said that another history has been initiated in the advancement of women. He said that it seems that the Sankranti festival has come a month earlier. CM Jagan participated in the BC Sankranti celebrations organized on Thursday at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium in Vijayawada. Reaching the stage, he paid tributes to Jyoti Rao Pule and YS Rajasekhara Reddy. He said this was the first time in the history of the country that the nominated posts at such a level were given to backward classes including half of which were given to women.

The chief minister said that BCs are not backward classes, they are the backbone of our culture and alleged that the previous government broke the backs of the backward castes. He further said that he considered the election manifesto to be the Bhagavad Gita, the Qur'an, the Bible and gave the four deputy CM posts to SC, ST and minority communities. "In the composition of the cabinet, 60 per cent posts were given to SCs, STs and minorities, the speaker of the Legislature also belongs to the BC castes," he added.

The chief minister said that 50 per cent reservation were given to BCs in nominated posts and jobs and urged them to take responsibility for ensuring welfare schemes for all the eligible beneficiaries regardless of politics. "The TDP has weakened corporations while in power hence radical changes are needed in corporations and welfare should be available to all, regardless of political affiliation," YS Jagan opined. He said nothing has been done for the BCs in the five years of the TDP regime and asserted that the government has spent Rs. 38,519 crore on the welfare of BCs. Rs 6140 crore investment assistance has been provided to BCs through Rythu Bharosa to benefit to 7.14 lakh BC families through zero interest scheme.

"We are distributing house deeds to over 31 lakh people on the 25th of this month. MLAs in each constituency should distribute house deeds for 15 days. We will register in the name of the beneficiaries as soon as the court gives its approval, " said CM Jagan.
