The idol of Lord Rama was destroyed by assailants who entered the temple of Kodanda Ramaswamy in Ramathiratham, a holy shrine in Vizianagaram district. They broke the locks of the temple and entered and removed the head of the idol of Lord Rama. Prasad, the temple priest, went upstairs on Tuesday morning to offer daily handicrafts to the Swami as usual and informed the fellow staff that the idol had been destroyed. Upon learning of the matter, the police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. However, the head part of the idol of Lord Rama was found in the Ramakola of the temple. After being blown in a deep pool six hours later the head part of Sri Rama was found. Jai Sriram then added his head to the temple amidst slogans. Chinna Jeeyar Swamy Ashram is arranging for the re-establishment of the head with representatives.

On the other hand, there is political outrage over the destruction of the idol of Lord Rama at the Ramateertham temple. BJP leaders are angry that attacks on Hindu temples have increased under the YSRCP. Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan was outraged over the issue. Pawan called on everyone to condemn the destruction of their idol of Sri Kodandaram on Bodhikonda in Ramateertham Kshetra. Responding to this, CM Jagan ordered to identify the culprits and punish them severely.
