MLC Challa Ramakrishna Reddy passed away due to Coronavirus at the Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad on Friday morning. He was hospitalized with Corona on the 13th of last month and has been on a ventilator ever since. He breathed his last this morning as the situation worsened. Challa Ramakrishna Reddy's family members are arranging to move his body from Hyderabad to his hometown. Minister Anil Kumar Yadav, Kurnool District Regional Coordinator Vesireddy Prabhakar Reddy, YSRCP leaders and activists expressed shock over the death of Challa Ramakrishna Reddy and expressed sympathy to the family members.

Challa Ramakrishna Reddy holds a prominent position in Kurnool district politics. He won as MLA in 1983 and he contested from the Done Assembly seat and lost. In 1991 lost in parliament election from Nandyal. In 1994, contested as an Assembly candidate in Kovelekuntla and lost to a sitting MLA. After that, in the 1999 and 2004 assembly elections, he contested and won.

Challa, who contested from Banaganapalle on behalf of the Congress, lost to the then Prajarajyam Party candidate Katsani Ramireddy in 2009 and contested from TDP in 2014 and lost. He later served as the Chairman of the AP Civil Supplies Corporation in the TDP government. During the 2019 general election, he resigned from the party and joined the YSR Congress party and played a key role in Banaganapalle candidate Katsani Ramireddy's victory.
