YSRCP MP Vijayasai Reddy writes letter to CEC over EVMs protection

Update: 2019-04-13 17:15 IST

Amaravati: The YSRCP senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP Vijayasai Reddy have written a letter to Chief Election Commissioner to bring the Central Reserve Police for the protection of the EVMs in the strong rooms.

Through the letter, he requested the EC to deploy the central forces to safeguard the strong rooms where the EVMs are placed.

He expressed no confidence on state police protection, as CM Chandrababu Naidu is making allegations against Election Commission that the polling has conducted one-sidely.

In the letter MP Vijayasai Reddy said; On behalf of YSRCP Party, at the outset, we thank the Election Commission for conducting free and fair poll to the Assembly and Parliament in Andhra Pradesh.

Now that the poll is over and all the EVMs have reached strong rooms at respective locations, we have genuine apprehensions about the deployment of the state police force for safeguarding strong rooms, specially when the state Chief Minister himself is making allegations against Election Commission and conducting dharnas.

Therefore, we request the deployment of central forces like CISF, CRPF, etc., at strong rooms in place of state police force or State Armed Reserve in the interest of everyone, particularly when Chief Minister is asking the CEO, AP not to obey the instructions of Central Election Commission.

Further, it is important to install CC Cameras for round the clock monitoring of Strong Rooms keeping in mind the volatile situation prevailing in the state as well as non-cooperative attitude of the State Government towards Election Commission.

Since the waiting period is unusually long. It calls for exceptional measures as suggested. We would be grateful if Election Commission considers our request and initiate appropriate measures to Safeguard the EVMs and closely monitor the strong rooms.

On the other side, CM Chandrababu Naidu has met the Election Commission over the malfunctioning of EVMs during the polling on Saturday. At the same time, YSRCP MP Vijaysai Reddy's letter to the EC has gained political attention in the state.
