YSRCP pitches Kiran Kumar to face Kala in Etcherla

Srikakulam: Etcherla Assembly constituency is a gate way of Srikakulam district. This is first segment which is located on either side of the National Highway 16 and western side of the Bay of Bengal. The segment was formed in 1967 and elections were held for 11 times, of it TDP won six times and on three occasions, the Congress captured the seat and Janata party won also from here. TDP has stronghold in Etcherla segment and it is a fortress to the party from the beginning.

This segment is being spread in Etcherla, Ranastalam, Laveru and G Sigadam mandals. Out of four mandals, Turpu Kapu caste voters are more in number in Ranastalam, Laveru and G Sigadam mandals and in Etcherla mandal, Kalinga caste voters are more in number. Fishermen, Telaga, Velama, Vysya, Padmasali and Reddyka community voters are also existing in the segment in considerable number.

Total voters in the segment are 2,23,369 of them 1,13,780 are male, 1,09,564 are female and 25 others. For the first time in 1967, N A Narsa Naidu was elected as MLA from this segment on Congress ticket. In 1972, B Harappadu Reddyka won as an independent. In 1978, K Narasayya won on Janata party ticket. In 1983, 1985, 1989, 1994 and in 1999, for five times

K Pratibha Bharati elected on TDP ticket. In 2004, K Murali Mohan was elected on Congress ticket and in 2009, M Neelakantam Naidu won on Congress ticket as MLAs. In 2014, K Kala Venkata Rao elected on TDP ticket and appointed as Minister for Energy and also working as TDP State president. This time also Kala Venkata Rao from TDP and G Kiran Kumar from YSRCP are ready to contest as their parties finalised their candidatures.
