Bengaluru: BBMP to conduct survey of children begging in city

Bengaluru: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) commissioner, N. Manjunath Prasad has directed officials to conduct a survey of children involved in begging and hawking under the municipal limits.

He has directed the officials to collect information on children living in slums in all the eight zones of the BBMP range.

The zonal officers have been asked to identify those children who are into begging or hawking near the traffic signals. In this connection, all the joint commissioners and the zonal officers concerned have to conduct a survey between 8 p.m and 12 midnight of the children found sleeping by road sides, in bus stands, markets and other public places.

Prasad told the authorities to collect information on the number of slum children going to school and those staying at home. They have been directed to make arrangements for sending children to schools or send teachers to slums to provide education to all.

Prasad has asked the officers to arrange a night shelter for such children.

Special Commissioner (Welfare) Ravindra, Special Commissioner (Administration) J Manjunath, Joint Joint Commissioners Pallavi, Ramakrishna, Ashok, Venkatachalapathy, Narasimhamoorthy, Nagaraj, Sivaswamy, Nagendra Naik, Planning Director of the Directorate of Child Protection Pushpalata and other officials were present in the meeting.
