Industry, hotel bodies urge transport workers to call off strike

Bengaluru: Bruhat Bangalore Hotels Association president P.C. Rao has requested the transport workers to withdraw strike.

"The strike is a major blow to public transport and paralyses all walks of life. People cannot attend to their basic needs and wedding functions and other social gatherings will be badly affected. The issues should be resolved and the strike should be withdrawn by workers considering the essential nature of the public transport," Rao said.

The Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FKCCI) president Perikal M Sundar said that the industrial and commercial sectors are incurring huge losses due to the transport strike.

He said that small businesses, garment and building worries and the general public are suffering a lot.

"The Chief Minister, the Minister of Transport and authorities should immediately persuade striking employees to call off the strike," Sundar said.

"The strike is going to have a huge impact on the workers who have already been hit by Covid-19 and millions have lost their jobs. It should be noted that Karnataka has already been brought down to the 17th position from seventh in the Ease of Doing Business. There are still many opportunities for investors to come to our State in the coming days. There should be efforts to preserve the peaceful atmosphere. We must unitedly uplift Karnataka. Let's get out of such escalating problems and try to make the State prosper and create new jobs," he said.
