Nursing student from Assam raped, murdered; friend in custody
Bengaluru: A 19-year-old nursing student from Assam was allegedly raped and murdered here on Wednesday. The incident has created a stir as Barpeta MP Abdul Khaleque, on Friday wrote to Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, urging him to take necessary action.
In the letter, the MP said, "The girl was from my parliamentary constituency and a student of East West College of Bengaluru...I request the Karnataka government to take necessary action to arrest all the culprits as soon as possible."
According to police, the prime accused identified as Anisur Rehaman, 21, who took the victim to a hospital in Yelahanka on Wednesday, has been arrested. The investigation claims that the girl had recently joined a college in Bengaluru and came to the city on Monday. The girl's admission had been done through Anisur, who is a student of the same college. The accused was known to the girl and she was brought dead to the hospital.
A Byadarahalli police official said a case was registered and investigation started. Preliminary investigation pointed to rape and murder of the girl. It is learnt that the victim's father knew the accused.
A case has been registered based on a complaint from the teenager's landlord. The accused was booked for rape and murder under section 376 (rape) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
