Roopa upset over being treated on equal footing with 'tainted' Nimbalkar

Bengaluru: Amidst the controversy over the Safe City Project that exposed the internal rift between two senior IPS officers, Hemant Nimbalkar and D Roopa, the State government has transferred them to new postings.

Hemant Nimbalkar who was Additional Commissioner (Administration), Bengaluru, has been shifted to the Internal Security Department, Bengaluru, while Roopa, who was the Home Secretary, has been posted as the Managing Director of Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd, Bengaluru.

Responding to the transfer, Roopa said that "posts don't matter". "But what matters is, public interest must be upheld and the corrupt must be punished. If my transfer paves the way for action against the corrupt, I welcome it. My transfer is like putting me on an equal footing with other IPS officer, Nimbalkar who has been charge-sheeted by CBI. The investigating agency has even recommended disciplinary action in the form of a major penalty, in last December, which is not yet done," she stated.

Taking to Twitter, Roopa said that transfers are a part of the government job. "I have been transferred more than double the times than the number of years of my career. Whistle-blowing and firm action have their own risks and I know that. I continue to do my job uncompromisingly, this post or that post, doesn't matter."

She said that as an MD of Handicrafts Emporium impetus will be given to the work of lakhs of artisans and their work will be showcased across the country and abroad, through Karnataka's famous Cauvery Emporium.
